Governor Rick Perry asks President Obama “Why are you taking care of Alabama?”

Oh gosh, Rick, I don’t know why Obama has declared Alabama a federal disaster area. I mean, we only experienced an F-5 tornado that stayed on the ground longer than any other on record, through a densely populated area no less. There were only half a million people without power (and hundreds of thousands still without power), many without homes, food, or anything really. How dare the federal government give money to anyone but Texas? Yeah, you’ll just bitch about it later, but it’s all your money, right?

Enough about Rick though. These storms are the worst I’ve seen in my lifetime here, especially within an urban area. Thankfully, I’ve heard from my close friends and family, and they stayed safe. Waiting for a phone call, email, or text just to know someone is alive seems like a little slice of hell to me, and I’d be happy to never make those calls again, thank you very much. I think we all got a healthy dose of perspective related to our recent anxieties though. For now, it’s at least reassuring to see the whole state pull together to get things back on track.
